Wow! You Can Now Pull Images Directly From Unsplash on Medium’s Android & iOS Apps 🎉

This will make writing on Medium more accessible.

I am ecstatic with the changes Medium has been making lately.

Yesterday, when I went to upload a picture from my gallery on my mobile phone, I noticed this third option: Search photos on Unsplash.

I wasn’t expecting this. But it is one of those changes I would have anticipated every day when I started writing on Medium.

I used to visit Unsplash and Pexels in search of images to add to my articles.

Now, this feature is available in Medium’s Android app.

One more improvement I noticed is that you can also add captions to your images while writing on your mobile phone.

It will only make a slight difference — one or two sentences per article — but it will make the writer’s experience on mobile much more similar to a desktop.

While speaking on the topic of desktops, how can I forget to mention that they have also changed the look that feels more minimalistic and is definitely an upgrade?

They have shifted the options that were earlier present in the left corner and condensed them all under the profile picture in the upper-right corner.

This creates room for reading when you open any article. And at the same time preserves your ability to jump to any page — profile, stats, stories/drafts — with a single click from any given page.

TL;DR

Here is the tl;dr version of the recent feature updates happening on Medium:

  • they have restored the ability to write and edit from their Android and iOS apps
  • they have added a small button through which you can listen to articles
  • you can now pull images directly from Unsplash
  • you can add captions through the mobile application
  • a lot of UI/UX changes both on the website and the mobile application

Did I miss something? If yes, lemme know in the comments. Do you like all the developments happening at Medium lately?

Let’s connect on Twitter and Substack.
